Streamlining UI for Operational Efficiency

Problem

Concho Resources, a petroleum company based in Midland, Texas, needed a mobile app to support its petroleum technicians working in remote areas of West Texas. Many wells were located in regions without cell coverage, forcing technicians to drive to areas with service to access the web platform and send or receive updates. This process was inefficient and time-consuming, impacting productivity.

The app needed to consolidate well information, provide real-time updates when possible, and function seamlessly offline. Additionally, while a prototype had been developed, the client was not fully satisfied with its design and usability. They sought a more polished and visually appealing solution to improve adoption among technicians.

My Role

As the UI designer, I participated in on-site meetings to understand Concho’s workflows and the specific challenges technicians faced. My focus was on refining the user interface to align with Concho’s brand standards while ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience, making the app more efficient and user-friendly in the field.

Key Features Delivered

Enhanced Dashboard Design

Developed a clean, organized interface to provide technicians with an at-a-glance view of well statuses, prioritizing those requiring immediate attention.

iPad Compatibility

Designed and optimized the app for iPad, ensuring the interface leveraged the larger screen size to enhance usability while maintaining consistency with the mobile version.

Brand Alignment

Created a consistent visual language that adhered to Concho’s branding, ensuring the app felt professional and cohesive with their corporate identity.

Usability Refinements

Enhanced the visual hierarchy, typography, and iconography to improve readability and make the app more intuitive for users in high-pressure, remote environments.
